You may have heard of a trending Netflix show called ‘The Tinder Swindler’.
As the name suggests, a man on Tinder makes a career of swindling his matches out of their money.
He uses elaborate stories and a perceived lifestyle to eventually convince these dates to send him their savings… at first, and then tens of thousands more after they take out large amounts of debt, all to fund his luxury lifestyle.
So, why do people swipe right on not just the app, but their bank accounts?
They get lost in a fake story.
It seems almost too good to be true (because it is) and it can be easy to get caught up in the moment… especially when someone wants to take you on their private jet.
These elaborate stories and some social proof, albeit fake, can draw in the victims who quickly jump on an emotional rollercoaster that leaves them down on money and empty on love.
Like the Tinder Swindler, the world of ‘crypto’ has its own variety of swindlers, and while we see ourselves separate from crypto as a Bitcoin-only company, Bitcoin is often used as the ‘profile picture’ for many shady characters.
Bitcoin might be the reason unsuspecting newcomers swipe right initially.
It’s also the reason many newcomers sign-up to the larger crypto exchanges, but it often quickly spirals into the ‘swindle’…
“Check out this exciting new project!”
“This coin is the next Bitcoin!”
“It’s going to change the world AND you can get in early!”
“The tech is game-changing!”
It’s often sold as being an opportunity to ‘get in early’, just like the Tinder Swindler, altcoin swindlers will focus on emotion, jargon, hype and FOMO.
It’s fast. It’s exciting and they don’t want you to ask questions, that’s why you should always check the story.
Bitcoin has a story and it’s a story you can verify. You should always verify and never be afraid to ask questions.
You shouldn’t just jump into a decision based on emotion – don’t ‘fall in love’ without proper vetting. Don’t fund their ‘swindle’.
We support Bitcoin-only and lead with education for a reason.
We stay away from altcoins for a reason.
While there’s nothing wrong with being drawn to Bitcoin because of the
‘profile picture’, you should always take a closer look.
Take a step back and ask questions. Challenge the narrative. Don’t get drawn into someone else’s deceit.
Our story is simple. We want to educate people on why Bitcoin can and is changing the world for the better.
We believe everyone should have access to sound money and we’re here to help make that a reality!
A great way to get started with Bitcoin is by auto-buying on a regular basis.
