FastBitcoins Launches Services in Brazil!

FastBitcoins started with a simple but ambitious mission –
help onboard 1 billion new Bitcoiners.

We began our journey mainly offering cash-to-bitcoin options via our merchant network, spanning seven regions. We’ve grown this network to support more Bitcoiners in new regions with online buying options in addition to in-person locations, and added features such as AutoBuy (DCA) to make it easier than ever to ‘stack sats’… but Bitcoin moves fast, and being at the forefront of innovation, we knew there was more work to be done!

FastBitcoins started local… now we’re going global!

We are expanding our services rapidly in order to help support and onboard new Bitcoiners, and we’ve finally made our way to Latin America, beginning with Brazil.

Why Brazil?

We believe that Bitcoin is for everyone, but some regions are certainly in more need of a sound money alternative to local currencies experiencing disproportionately high levels of inflation compared to many Western countries, who are only just starting to feel the effects.

With Brazil experiencing double-digit inflation in November alone, we felt it necessary to expand our services to the country and offer an alternative way to accumulate Bitcoin for those seeking a harder store of value that they can control and an exit from money that’s rapidly losing purchasing power.

Buying bitcoin in Brazil:

  1. FastBitcoins users in Brazil can now buy bitcoin instantly through their bank account
  2. Want to buy in-person with cash? Buy bitcoin at any Lotericas location across Brazil (13k locations)
  3. Another cash option – users can also buy bitcoin with cash through any Boleto Bancario store across the country (40k locations)

Where to start?!

Begin your FastBitcoins journey by creating an account with us. Our native-speaking team are always on-hand to help you on your journey and answer any questions you may have. Bitcoin can be a complex technology, but we believe the benefits of learning more far outweigh the costs of missing out on sound money. Don’t be shy, we are here to help!

Once your account is created, you can start buying bitcoin… it’s really that easy!

What now? Ready for Lightning?!

So you want to buy bitcoin, how does the Lightning Network help with that?

The Lightning Network is a layer 2 solution that enables faster and cheaper transactions atop the Bitcoin Network. We were the first exchange to embrace the Lightning Network back in 2018 and support transactions for a reason – it’s the future of payments on Bitcoin.

How does this help you, today? Simply put, withdrawing your bitcoin from FastBitcoins (you must take ownership of your own coins) using the Lightning Network is free and instant. Withdraw to your own Lightning wallet and save on withdrawal fees (this means more bitcoin for you).

Users will often withdraw using Lightning, before sending on-chain to a hardware wallet – if this sounds complicated, don’t worry, we’re here to help!

Lightning Addresses:

Want to make full use of the features FastBitcoins and the Lightning Network has to offer? Users can create their own Lightning address (example: you@fbtc.me) through their account that anyone can send bitcoin to. Family, friends… sending and receiving bitcoin is as easy as sending an email.

This is just the beginning of our journey in Latin America and Brazil, we can’t wait to share what’s to come!
